10-21 CT Project (More on Scratch)

Before class:

- Fill in the sign-up form if you would like to volunteer for the follow-up interview on collaboration and earn a late pass.

Opportunities to Earn Late Passes:

We did a Q Sort activity on collaborative learning last Friday and you have two late-pass opportunities:

  • Late pass #1: Sign the consent form to let me use your Q Sort data for research purpose. OR you may record a 90-second video about your best collaborative learning experience and send it to me via Remind by Monday, October 21st, before class.

  • Late pass #2: Volunteer for the follow-up interview (about 45 minutes); please sign-up here. OR write a 500-word reflection about your perspectives on collaborative learning and your own experiences (both positive and negative) of collaborative group work; email it to me by October 30th, Wednesday, before class.

About Genius Hour Post #2:

You have started to do some real research about your topic and finished your second post. So far I only checked its accessibility and what references you used, I'll provide feedback to each of you by Wednesday. Although I do not require formal academic citations, but I do emphasize that you need to give people credits in some way if you used their resources as reference. You can either have a link in the body text of your post, or you can add them to the end separately. Here is an example from Kimberly's Genius Hour posts. I'll share how to easily add references for academic resources you are going to use for Post #3.

More about Scratch: (PPT)

We will learn some more concepts related to block-based programming with coding exercises. Then you practice more based your own interest using the "use - modify - create" approach.

Plan for the next few classes:

- 10/23: Start to work with your partners on your own Scratch coding plans.

- 10/25: INDEPENDENT WORD DAY. NO CLASS. You will meet with your partners to work on your CT project and send me a group selfie via Remind by 10 pm, Sunday, October 27th.

- 10/28: Work on your CT project in class.

- 10/30: Work on your CT project in class. (Project due by midnight Wednesday, October 30th)

- 11/01: Fall Break.

HOMEWORK:

1. Fill in the sign-up form if you would like to volunteer for the follow-up interview on collaboration and earn a late pass.

2. Before class, Wednesday, October 23rd, choose another Scratch starter project or other projects to remix. Be ready to share what you have learned or what problems you may have.

3. Start to work on your Genius Hour project Post #3, due November 1st, Friday.
