Takeaways from two videos
- Youtube video Learning Styles Don't Exist.(6 minutes).
- 15-minute TED talk Learning Styles & the Importance of Critical Self-Reflection.
UDL Scenarios
On the front and back of a piece of paper, write about a success and a failure you had in a course last semester. What was the class, what was the content, what was it you were asked/expected to do? Was it a reading, a lecture, a quiz, a paper, a test, an individual project, a group project, an internship, etc.
We’ll spend some time sharing your successes and challenges and identifying which of the 3 Principles of UDL relate to them (Here is the UDL chart for your reference):
Multiple Means of Engagement
Multiple Means of Representation
Multiple Means of Action and Expression
UDL Challenge
From the perspective of UDL, what principles of UDL would the failure be related to? Rewrite your challenge scenario – how might it have been different if one or more of the 3 principles of UDL had been considered? (This will be a graded assignment, 2% of total grade.)
You’ll write it like a “day in the life” narrative – making sure to describe the course, the content, what you are being asked to do, and how you might accomplish the challenge taking UDL under consideration. What tools might have better supported your learning and/or allowed for UDL considerations? You may get some inspirations from the UDL examples you have collected.
Read the 3 classrooms scenarios from the textbook to get some suggestions on how you might write your challenge scenario (although you are writing it from the student perspective).
Write about 500-800 words.
Add a new page "UDL" to your portfolio and post your writing there. Don't forget to publish the changes.
