02-12 Maker Fair

Get Prepared:

- Post your Maker project to the Padlet, like what we did with the Tool Commercial project.

- We have some fancy monitors in our classroom. They can be connected wirelessly to your computer. You can use them to help you share your Maker project (We'll continue to use them for future projects).

  • Download Mersive Solstice App and install it.

  • Open the app, go to settings, enter your name and the solstice discovery service address at the bottom: solstice.coe.uga.edu

  • Choose the discovered displays for our classroom

  • Enter the code at the bottom of the display, then you are connected!

  • View this tutorial, if the above instruction is not clear.

Maker Fair

Today you'll share your final product to your classmates in the form of a MakerFair.

First, share it with your table (no more than 4 people). Talk with each other about how you made it and why you made it that way and what you have learnt. Ask each other questions, make comments and, give each other suggestions (face to face or on Padlet). Then, after 10-15 minutes, you'll switch to a new group to continue to learn about more projects.

Feel free to use the solstice monitors if they can help your demonstration. Close your Solstice app when you finish your demonstration so that the next student can get their laptop connected.

Debrief:

- Name one or two most interesting projects to you. What inspirations do you get from them?

- - What have you learned about creativity and maker education?

HOMEWORK:

1. Read computational thinking (page 67-83). Be ready to share your thoughts in class. We'll focus on this topic during the next two weeks.

2. Watch this video: what is computational thinking.
