*09/15 Tool Commercial Project Presentation (continued)

1. Tool Commercial Project Presentation

We'll continue with the Tool Commercial Project presentation today. And if we still have time, we'll debrief the reading of "Meaning Learning with Technology".

When listening to the presentations, you can ask questions and make comments in the chat, or speak up at the end of a presentation.

2. Debrief Meaningful Learning with Technology

A lot of what we learn this semester is based on the ideas presented in Chapter One Meaningful Learning with Technology, so it’s really important to get a solid foundation on the information included in it. In the Foundations reading responses two weeks back, most of you (76%) thought this reading is most meaningful to you and shared great insights of your understanding.

In order for students to learn meaningfully, they must be willfully engaged in a meaningful task.
Learning technologies can be any environment or definable set of activities that engage learners in active, constructive, intentional, authentic, and cooperative learning.

FlipGrid Discussion:

You've also had a FlipGrid discussion about the meaningful learning characteristics. You have shared wonderful examples and demonstrated your understanding of the reading. Here are some points that may need further discussion and clarification:

  • Do all learning activities reflect the 5 principles all at the same time?

  • "Authentic" learning

  • "Constructive" learning

Final Comments:

If you think about the 7 ISTE standards for students as the goals we want students to achieve, then the 5 Meaningful Learning principles show the means to get there. The Universal Design for Learning framework we are going to discuss next class is more about the specific how-to strategies.
