1. House Keeping
Late Passes: Originally late passes can be rendered to excuse absences, late submission of assignments and bonus points for final grade. But since I want to provide as much flexibility as possible, I'm not strict about attendance and pretty generous giving extensions. So to be fair to those who have late passes. I decide that all late passes will be counted towards your final grade (including those you already used). There will be 2-3 more late pass opportunities. Don't miss them.
2. Q sort about online collaboration
Global collaborator is one of the ISTE standards. Meaningful learning with technology also have "cooperative/collaborative" as one of the characteristics. Without saying, it's important for us to practice collaborative learning. However, online collaboration can be challenging and frustrating sometimes. In preparation for the next group project -- Online Collaboration Resource Guide -- which will be introduced next Tuesday, we'll do a Q sort activity:
There are 28 statements related to frustration in online collaboration. You need to follow the instructions step by step to sort them into some boxes based on your experience and perceptions of online collaboration. It is possible that you have never experienced some of the frustrations before. In that case, just imagine, if you were in that position, how frustrating it would be to you.
Step 1: Sort them into 3 general piles: frustrating, not frustrating, and neutral
Step 2: Read the statements carefully and sort them into more specific categories from most frustrating to least frustrating
Step 3: Revisit your sorting and make changes if needed
Step 4: Explain why you sort some particular statements as most/least frustrating
Step 5: Fill out a very simple survey
IMPORTANT Note:
I'll combine the sorts from both classes I'm teaching to analyze the data. And then you will be divided into groups for a Padlet group discussion. That means if you don't complete the Q sort, you won't have the opportunity to participate in group discussion.
