1. Learning centers

Today you’ll complete all four learning centers. There is a fifth one for you to work on if you have already finished all of them.

  • Center One: Introduce Yourself – Tell us more about yourself using a video tool

  • Center Two: Organize Your Coursework – Set up a class portfolio using Google Sites

  • Center Three: Explore Course Foundations – Figure out what this course is about

  • Center Four: Go on a Scavenger Hunt – Find your way around Aderhold

  • Center Five: Learn about ISTE Standards -– create an infographic with Canva.com


2. Group discussion on ISTE Standards (2016)

Here is an video overview of the ISTE Standards.

Discuss with your group members about the following questions (5mins):

  • Can you give some examples of technology-integrated classroom activities that are in compliance with the the ISTE Standards for students? It could be from your own learning experiences, or something you think would promote ISTE standards.

  • Why should we care about ISTE standards?

  • What can we do to promote recognition to the technology-integration in K-12 classrooms? How can we equip pre-service teachers with the mindset?



HOMEWORK (DUE Wednesday, August 21st and beyond).

  1. By Wednesday, 08/21 – Read Chapter One from Howland, J., & Jonassen, D. (2012). Meaningful learning with technology (4th ed.). Boston: Pearson.  This chapter is the foundation for everything we will do this semester.

  2. By Friday, 08/23 – Read Preparing 21st Century Students for a Global Society(Publication). (2011). Washington, DC: NEA.

  3. By Monday, 08/26 – Read Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Making learning accessible and engaging for all students. (Publication). (2008). Washington, DC: NEA and read Common Core Standards Revisted: Universal design for learning.(Publication). (2016). and view this chart about UDL

  4. Earn a late pass if you finish the fifth learning center. before next class.
